Small-ship sailing brand Sea Cloud has promoted Kevin Smith to president of the Americas, as the traditionally German brand looks increasingly to court English-speaking North Americans.
Smith, who joined Sea Cloud in 2023 as senior vice president of sales, previously held positions with Silversea, AmaWaterways, and American Queen Voyages. His new role will see him spearhead the company’s strategic growth, market developments across the Americas, and commercial operations.
Hamburg-based Sea Cloud, with its fleet of three classically styled sailing vessels – including the new Sea Cloud Spirit and the historic, 1934-built Sea Cloud – has historically courted German-speaking passengers. Recent years, however, have seen the company expand its English-language offerings, with a hard push to entice North Americans to the luxury brand.
CruiseTimes wrote about our sailing aboard the new Sea Cloud Spirit in our spring 2026 issue, and found much to enjoy and appreciate about the brand and its historic trappings. However, English-language support remained a pinch point – something Smith will no doubt address in his new role.
Smith succeeds Mirell Reyes, who previously held the position of president of the Americas with Sea Cloud. Together with Smith, Reyes oversaw the opening of Sea Cloud’s first offices in South Florida in 2023.
